University of Bath graduate Kelly Gallagher has been named in the British team to compete at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

The visually-impaired Alpine skier will be competing at her second Paralympic Games after finishing fourth in the giant slalom in Vancouver four years ago, the best finish by a British visually-impaired skier since 1994.

Gallagher, from Bangor in Northern Ireland, graduated from the University with a Mathematics degree in 2006.

She said she was looking forward to representing Paralympics GB in Sochi.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Sochi now that we have celebrated our selection at the team launch,” she said.

“We have all been working so hard and remained so focussed on our individual performances that I can’t believe this is finally happening. Now that we have had a chance to really feel like one team it will make me train and focus even more in the next few crucial weeks.”

Gallagher will be guided by Charlotte Evans, who contests her first Games.

The pair have already picked up a number of World Cup medals this year including three gold and a silver at the recent World Cup in Panorama in Canada, but face fierce competition out in Sochi from international and British challengers.
