The Chairman of the Council, Cllr Neil Butters, has launched the Chairman’s Sport Awards 2014 alongside representatives from Aquaterra Leisure, O2 Creation and Sirona Care and Heath; the official supporters for the awards.

Now in their ninth year, the awards will recognise the achievements and dedication of local sports people, volunteers and coaches who are either residents or are active in sports in Bath and North East Somerset.

Cllr Neil Butters, Chairman of the Council, said: “I’m delighted to launch these awards which celebrate the marvellous achievements and dedication of our local sports people, volunteers and coaches.

“Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to help everyone have the opportunity to participate in sports and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

“We hope that anyone who has been inspired by the devotion of others towards sporting activities in their community will put their name forward and give them the recognition that they deserve.”

Building on the Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympic Legacy, the Council hopes to see membership increase at a range of sporting clubs and organisations as demand rises for physical activities which offer health and wellbeing benefits.

Individuals, sports clubs, schools, colleges and community groups are invited to make nominations for the Chairman’s Sport Awards 2014 in the following categories:

  • Young Volunteer in Sport

The Chairman’s Special Award, recognising Achievement in the Community, will be selected from all the nominations received and will best reflect the Chairman’s theme of ‘Communities Preparing for the Future’.

All award nominees will be invited to a civic reception and presentation on Tuesday 25th March 2014.

All finalists will receive a certificate and photograph, while the winner in each category will be presented with a piece of engraved, Aqua Blue Glass and offered 12 months free Platinum membership to Aquaterra-run facilities (worth £400).
