Oldfield Old Boys’ first game of the season in Counties 2 Tribute Ale Somerset was abandoned following an injury suffered by their replacement hooker Ollie Humphries.

An injury to Ollie Humphries meant Oldfield Old Boys’ league opener was abandoned around the hour mark

The match at South Bristol Sports Centre on Saturday 6th September was brought to an early conclusion with just over 60 minutes played, Imperial leading 27-9.

A spokesman for the visitors said: “The team spirit and camaraderie shown by Oldfield was outstanding and provides a strong foundation for the season ahead.

“Well done to all the players and coaches, with special thanks going to Pip, Imperial’s physio.

“Everyone sends their best wishes to Ollie for a speedy recovery.”

Oldfield will play their first home game of the campaign on Saturday 13th September, when another Bristol outfit, St Bernadette’s Old Boys, come to Shaft Road.

St Bernadette’s began their season with a 22-15 success at Milverton club Rebels Rugby last weekend.

Walcot made a winning start to their Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern South programme, squeezing home 27-26 at The Common against promoted hosts Marlborough 2nd XV on Saturday 6th September.

Trowbridge 2nd XV will provide the opposition on Saturday 13th September when league action returns to Walcot’s Albert Field base in Lansdown.

The men from Paxcroft were outgunned 33-22 by visitors Salisbury last weekend.

Combe Down will finally get their Counties 2 Tribute Ale Dorset & Wilts North season up and running on Saturday 13th September, when they go to Westbury (3pm). The Knott Field outfit commenced their league fixtures by triumphing 23-19 at Calne on Saturday 6th September.

The Down – relegated from Counties 1 Southern South in the spring – were due to begin their attempts to regain Level 7 status last weekend. But their scheduled home clash with Amesbury was postponed due to the Wiltshire club’s pre-season activities being disrupted by pitch problems.

Combe 2nd XV will travel to Wiltshire side Colerne for a pre-season match on Saturday 13th September (3pm).
