The Down, who will commence their Jewson Western League One campaign at Cadbury Heath on Saturday 2nd August (3pm), were beaten 2-0 by the Wasps at Wincanton Sports Ground.

Wincanton, from the Velocity Wessex League Premier Division, conceded that the friendly was fairly even.

However, the South Somerset outfit broke the deadlock just before the interval when Dave O’Hare drove in from 25 yards.

There was no further scoring until the second-half injury-time, when Darren McAllister struck in front of a crowd of around 120.

Odd Down went into the match on the back of the Mark Brown Memorial Cup clash with a Melksham Town XI at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground.

Brown, who died in 2023, was manager of the Down’s development team. Previously he played for Melksham.

The Wiltshire team retained the cup by winning the Tuesday 22nd July game.
