Round-up of the local hockey action – Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March.

Team Bath Buccaneers’ women’s 1st XI maintained their two-point lead in England Hockey Women’s Conference West by drawing with their nearest challengers on Saturday 14th March

Team Bath Buccaneers women’s 1st XI maintained their two-point lead at the top of England Hockey Women’s Conference West by drawing 1-1 at second-placed Cardiff & Met 1st XI on Saturday 14th March.

With just two rounds of matches to go – at home to Cheltenham side Lansdown 1st XI and away to Slough 1st XI – the Buccs are looking good bets for the title, their remaining opponents lying bottom and second bottom respectively.

However, Cardiff & Met will have something to say about that. And they too will face Lansdown, away in their closing fixture after hosting Oxford University 2nd XI.

Rhiannon Hawker scored from a penalty corner to give the Welsh side a fifth-minute lead over Team Bath.

But Sophia Barton got the visitors back on terms with a crucial 25th-minute goal, also from a penalty corner.

The Buccaneers’ men’s 1st XI were 4-2 winners at Chichester 1st XI in England Hockey Men’s Conference West on Sunday 15th March and are now just one point behind the third-placed West Sussex outfit with two rounds of games remaining.

Team Bath’s Alex Butterfield opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the fourth minute and Henry Swan buried another in the 44th minute to make it 2-0.

Butterfield struck in the 47th minute to extend the advantage, only for Elliott Scott to pull one back on the hour.

Another Swan goal from a penalty corner put the Buccaneers 4-1 up in the 66th minute. But Oscar Pacey responded in kind four minutes later.

James Kellock scored four times, all from penalty corners, as City of Bath 1st XI overwhelmed visitors Team Bath Buccaneers 4th XI 8-0 on 14th March in West Hockey West Men’s Division 2 East.

City of Bath head the table by five points with four rounds of matches left.
