A round-up of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September’s men’s hockey matches.

Team Bath Buccaneers 1st XI went down 2-1 at Ashmoor in England Hockey Men’s Conference West on Sunday 28th September

Team Bath Buccaneers 1st XI went down 2-1 when they visited South Devon outfit Ashmoor 1st XI in England Hockey Men’s Conference West on Sunday 28th September.

The guests’ Oliver Jameson (penalty corner) was on target in the 45th minute to cancel out a 12th-minute field goal from Ashmoor’s Richard Fisher at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes.

However, Fisher scored from a penalty corner late on to sink the Buccs, who had Connor Tinker green-carded in the 52nd minute.

Ashmoor received green cards for Sol Bloomfield (35) and George Galbraith (55) and yellows for Fisher (56) and Theo Bennett (62).

The Buccaneers made the journey with an opening-day victory under their belts, having dispatched hosts Marlow 1st XI 3-2 on Sunday 21st September. Jayden Zamler’s early field goal gave Marlow the lead, only for Ben Taylor (field goal), Alexander Renwick (field goal) and Ed Whitworth (penalty stroke) to give Team Bath a 3-1 cushion after 58 minutes. Callum White’s penalty corner reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute.

The West Hockey season commenced on Saturday 27th September, with Team Bath 2nd XI enjoying a 3-1 comeback success at Clifton Robinsons 2nd XI in West Men’s Premier.

Tim Atkins (penalty corner) shot Clifton Robinsons ahead in the 12th minute. Alexander Morris levelled matters from a penalty corner in the 24th minute. Then two field goals in as many minutes around the hour – Josh Cobb and Kaya Campion on target – ensured the Buccs claimed the points at Badminton School in Bristol.

Ben Jones’ 40th-minute goal from a penalty corner proved enough to hand Team Bath 3rd XI a 1-0 home victory over Gloucester City 1st XI in West Men’s Division One North.

And the Buccaneers’ 4th XI were successful against Chippenham opponents, winning 3-1 away to the Wiltshire club’s 2nd XI in West Men’s Division 2 East.

Peter Birch (penalty corner), Noah McCahill (field goal) and Henry Hodges (field goal) found the net in the opening 32 minutes to put Team Bath well clear. A field goal from Aled Evans in the 55th minute was Chippenham’s only response.

Team Bath 5th XI came unstuck at Sidmouth & Ottery 1st XI in West Men’s Division 2 Central, falling to a 3-0 reverse.

The Buccs, who had Chris Hancock yellow-carded after five minutes, were defeated by goals in the 37th, 42nd and 63rd minutes.

Also suffering a setback were Team Bath 6th XI, who crashed 3-0 at home to Keynsham 1st XI in West Men’s Concorde Division 1. Tom Padden (field goal), James Evans (penalty corner) and Michael Pennington (field goal) netted for the visitors.

And there was defeat for the Buccs’ 7th XI, 3-2 at home to Chippenham 3rd XI in West Men’s Saxon Division 1.

Dominic Meiklereid (field goal) put Chippenham ahead in the 20th minute but Rob Moore (penalty corner) equalised in the 45th minute. The travellers regained the initiative from a 50th-minute penalty corner, only for Oliver Dimond’s field goal to tie things up again five minutes later. Richard Baak (penalty corner) grabbed Chippenham’s winner on the hour.

Team Bath 8th XI were slammed 6-1 when they entertained Cirencester 3rd XI in West Men’s Saxon Division 2. The Buccs scored a field goal in the 55th minute. But they had already conceded five goals and let in another a minute later.

Tom Deverell was a hat-trick hero as City of Bath 1st XI made a great start to their West Men’s Division 2 East campaign, routing hosts Hereford 1st XI 6-0.

Deverell netted in the 41st, 50th and 60th minutes – helping himself to two field goals and a strike from a penalty corner.

James Kellock weighed in with a brace from penalty corners – on 20 and 30 minutes – after OIiver Yates (penalty corner) opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

But City of Bath 2nd XI suffered a 5-1 thrashing by North Wilts 1st XI at St Joseph’s Catholic College, Swindon, in West Men’s Saxon Division 1.

James Quigley’s field goal after 35 minutes was the visitors’ lone consolation.

North Wilts surged 3-0 in front through Darren Hillier (field goal), George Bull (field goal) and Steve Dixon (penalty corner). After Quigley found the target, Bull (field goal) and Daniel Bruce (penalty corner) completed the home tally.

City of Bath 3rd XI ran riot in West Men’s Saxon Division 2, destroying hosts Royal Wootton Basset 3rd XI 8-0.

Nicholas Rose set the guests on their way with a field goal after two minutes. Further field goals followed from Chris Antrobus (18 and 40), Thomas King (28 and 36) and Aiden Archer (30) to leave City of Bath 6-0 ahead. Then Archer pounced from a penalty corner and John Mahy completed the scoring with a field goal.

Mendip 1st XI battled back from two goals behind to draw 2-2 at Cardiff & Met 3rd XI in West Men’s Division 1 North.

William Tudur-Eveleigh (penalty stroke) and Hugh Middleton (field goal) put the hosts in command. But William Lawton netted from a penalty corner in the 50th minute and tied the game with a field goal after 68 minutes.

Cardiff & Met’s cause was not helped by a yellow card for Tudur-Eveleigh in the 55th minute.

Mendip 2nd XI slipped up 2-1 when they faced visitors Clifton Robinsons 6th XI in West Men’s Concorde Division 1.

Colin Colegate (penalty corner) put Clifton Robinsons ahead after 20 minutes but Samuel Jones (field goal) equalised almost immediately. James Parsons struck a field goal late on to earn the guests their victory.
