More than 100 kids enjoy Team Bath Buccaneers’ hockey taster day

More than 100 children from Year 4 and Year 5 attended a hockey taster day hosted by Team Bath Buccaneers.

The youngsters represented local schools including Combe Down Primary, Oldfield Park Junior, Widcombe Infant and Batheaston Primary.

The event at the University of Bath Sports Training Village was part of the Buccaneers’ community outreach programme, which has now entered its second year.

At the start of the taster day, the children took part in a lively mass warm-up session.

Following this, they were divided into smaller groups, preparing them for the next stage of activities.

The groups then took part in carousel hockey, during which they enjoyed engaging games or hockey-based exercises designed to develop their skills and encourage teamwork in a fun, supportive environment.

After an energetic morning, everyone paused for lunch.

The afternoon activities began with a series of small-sided games between the groups, allowing the children to put their newly acquired skills into practice.

The coaches could not resist the opportunity to take part in the matches alongside the youngsters, adding to the enjoyment and community spirit of the day.

Meanwhile, the West Hockey divisions have moved into their festive break, with league action set to resume in January.

City of Bath’s men’s 1st XI have been the standout local side so far this season.

They have won all 10 of their matches in West Men’s Division 2 East and have a six-point lead at the top of the table.

City of Bath wrapped up their pre-Christmas programme by winning 4-2 at Cirencester 1st XI on Saturday 6th December, James Kellock netting a hat-trick from penalty corners.
