Buccaneers’ men’s 1s win but women’s 1s slip up after taking lead

Team Bath Buccaneers’ men’s 1st XI swept aside their University of Bristol counterparts – but the women’s 1st XI were undone by Cheltenham-based Lansdown

Andrew Oxburgh scored twice as Team Bath Buccaneers’ men’s 1st XI raced to a 4-1 success at their University of Bristol counterparts on Sunday 16th November.

The Buccs led 2-0 in the England Hockey Men’s Conference West encounter at Coombe Dingle thanks to early goals from Luca Gormley and Christian Moody, only for Willem Owens to pull one back in the 22nd minute.

But Oxburgh netted in the 24th and 39th minutes to see the visitors to an emphatic victory.

Next up for Team Bath is a home game against Isca 1st XI on Sunday 23rd November (1pm).

The Buccaneers’ women’s 1st XI took the lead but ended up beaten 2-1 when they visited Cheltenham-based Lansdown 1st XI on Saturday 15th November.

Sophie Shield handed the Buccs a seventh-minute advantage in the England Hockey Women’s Conference West match at Dean Close School.

But the Gloucestershire side levelled through a penalty stroke from Emily Dunne in the 22nd minute and grabbed their winner courtesy of Ella Greenbank on the half-hour.

Team Bath will entertain lowly Slough 1st XI in the league on Saturday 22nd November (1pm).
