A match round-up by Hampset Cricket Club – Saturday 26th July.

Hampset 2nd XI mauled Brislington 3rd XI by 155 runs

Hampset 2nd XI delivered another crucial performance in their fight to avoid relegation from Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Seven East, storming to a 155-run home victory over Brislington 3rd XI on Saturday 26th July.

Having been sent into bat after losing the toss, Hampset were undeterred.

Ashton Wright laid the foundation with a composed and confident 55 off 51 deliveries, finding the boundary eight times and clearing it once.

Alex Ockwell added flare at the top with a fluent 67 from 56 balls, while Jon Hart’s unbeaten 46 ensured consistency through the middle overs.

The innings gathered pace with Oli Rose (21 off 22 balls) contributing valuable runs and Jacob Marquiss providing a final burst – 22 not out from 16 deliveries – to lift the total to 261-5.

Aiding the surge was a costly haul of 31 extras, gifted through wides and no balls.

The Hampset bowlers answered the call. Harry Hall (8-2-20-1) and James Dorey (8-2-23-1) operated with precision, restricting the opposition early on and setting the platform for a blistering collapse.

The duo’s discipline laid the groundwork for Sarfaraz Mahar’s fiery 4-32 and Jurie Fick’s incisive 3-20, the latter rattling through the middle order with ruthless efficiency.

The fielding matched the energy. The turning point came as Marquiss sprinted in from the boundary to intercept a high catch, crashing to the ground headfirst but refusing to let go. It was a moment that defined more than just a wicket – it embodied the fight Hampset need to survive.

Bowled out for 106 in 31.3 overs, the opposition fell massively short – and Hampset took another vital step towards safety.

With Hampset securing two wins in as many weeks, belief is building across the squad.

Their next fixture is away to basement team St George Valley on Saturday 2nd August.
