Hampset 1st XI crushed in Bristol Cricket Association clash

Hampset Cricket Club’s 1st XI were thumped by nine wickets when they visited Bristol 3rd XI last Saturday (5th July).

The Bath side were 47-1 and 82-2 after being asked to bat in the Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Two encounter but were dismissed for 167 – and the hosts coasted to victory.

Hampset, who plunged to 111-6, were removed in 32.5 overs.

Number three Louie Gratton-Peters was the chief run-getter, scoring 36 – with a six and half-a-dozen fours – off 46 balls.

Adam Hodgson, batting at number six, weighed in with 31 from 32 deliveries. His knocked included a six and four boundaries.

However, the only other significant contribution came from extras (33).

Pick of the Bristol attack was Jonty Hall, who pocketed 3-20 from 6.5 overs. Archie Birkbeck snapped up 3-29 off seven overs.

The home team responded with an opening stand of 75 – and they reached their target in 24.4 overs, closing on 170-1.

Birkbeck (72 not out from 80 balls) and James Hutchings (54 not out off 31 deliveries) were Bristol’s stars with the willow. Hutchings’ knock included four sixes and five boundaries.

Hampset’s Tom Marquiss bagged the only Bristol wicket to fall and finished with the respectable figures of 1-17 from five overs.

Mid-table Hampset will entertain second-bottom Bohemians at Bloomfield Rise this Saturday (12th July).
