A late goal from Luke Skinner proved little consolation for Bath City when they visited Chelmsford City in Enterprise National League South on Saturday 7th March.

The young forward on loan from Bristol City netted with 10 minutes remaining at The Dunmow Group Community Stadium – but by that stage the Romans were 7-0 down.

The match, played in front of a 1,713-strong crowd, was a nightmare for Bath, who are without a league win since they shocked Worthing at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Saturday 24th January.

Across their seven National League South fixtures that followed the win over the West Sussex club, the Romans have taken only three points from a possible 21, having secured three draws and suffered four defeats.

Chelmsford broke the deadlock in the fourth minute, Harry Barbrook beating Charlie Binns from close range after the Bath custodian parried a shot from Jason Adigun.

The Romans battled back for a spell but failed to threaten the home goal – and they were soon punished again.

Joe Grimwood made it 2-0 in the 20th minute, heading in from almost on the line following a high ball from Adigun.

In the 36th minute, Manny Egbo volleyed in the hosts’ third goal, this after good work by Charlee Adams.

And the Clarets took a 4-0 advantage into the break as Adams sent over a corner and Ben Tompkins headed past Binns in the 39th minute.

Chelmsford completed their nap hand just three minutes into the second half, Grimwood heading in from another Adams corner.

Bath did not register a shot on target until Owen Windsor tested home keeper Noah Phillips with a stiff drive on the hour.

But the Clarets were soon back in their stride. They made it 6-0 in the 62nd minute, Adigun the marksman after being released by Egbo.

Substitute Jesurun Uchegbulam notched the promotion-chasers’ seventh goal when, in the 73rd minute, he curled the ball into the net after a pass from Adigun.

Skinner bagged the Romans’ goal when he struck following a cross from fellow substitute Moses Alexander-Walker. It was only their 32nd goal in 33 league fixtures.

Bath: Charlie Binns, Joe Raynes (Joel Sullivan, 84), Dan Greenslade (Jordan Alves, 46), Jack Batten, Kieran Parselle, Jordan Tillson (Mitch Beardmore, 75), Luke Russe (Luke Skinner, 46), Matt Bowman, Owen Windsor (Moses Alexander-Walker, 72), Jaiden Putman, Reubin Sheppard. Unused sub: Harvey Wiles-Richards.

With Farnborough set to visit the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park tomorrow, Tuesday 10th March, for a crucial relegation tie, Bath need to get the Chelmsford setback out their system very quickly.
