A goal apiece from academy graduate Jasmine Rennie and former Mangotsfield United defender Eve Trivett ensured the Romans overcame the Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division side 2-1.

Rennie was denied by Rangers’ keeper early on, but the Yate-based outfit took a grip on proceedings.

City’s new keeper Lucy Clay, an ex-Bristol Rovers player, made several saves before a Frampton error resulted in the hosts going in front.

The visitors’ keeper failed to take Koz Thorner-Atkinson’s long ball forward and Rennie pounced to fire home from an angle in the 21st minute.

And it could have been 2-0 before the break, Rose Burridge’s free-kick hitting a post.

Frampton continued to press in the second period – but another error enabled Trivett to extend the Romans’ advantage, shooting into an undefended net from 25 yards with 15 minutes to go.

Rangers got onto the scoresheet shortly afterwards with a penalty, although Bath felt the foul by Burridge that led to the spot-kick was committed outside the box.

This was Bath’s first friendly victory of the summer, following defeats by Bristol Rovers and AEK Boco.

City will commence their competitive campaign on Sunday 7th September when they take on fellow Tier 6 club Hereford at The MandM Edgar Street Stadium in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup first qualifying round (2pm).

If Bath overcome Hereford, they will receive £1,800 of prize money alongside a place in the second qualifying round, which will be played on Sunday 21st September.

There is prize money of £450 for each of the losers in the first qualifier.

Hereford won the Midwest Counties Female Football League Division One championship last season, winning 26, drawing one and losing one of their 28 games.

This term they are members of West Midlands Regional Football League Division One South.

The Romans will begin their South West Regional League Division One North season by facing Bitton at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Sunday 14th September.

Bath City Women Development will start their Somerset County Women’s League Division One season at Cheddar on Sunday 7th September (2pm).
