Romans and Odd Down beaten at home in midweek friendlies

Bath City’s first home pre-season friendly ended in defeat to a useful Cardiff City U21 side.

The Romans – who beat neighbours Larkhall Athletic 3-1 at the Camella Stadium in their opening warm-up fixture – lost 2-0 to the young Bluebirds at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Tuesday 14th July.

Cardiff, featuring several players with first-team experience, thoroughly deserved their success in front of a crowd of 182.

They took the lead after four minutes but Bath almost levelled shortly afterwards, a Jordan Tillson drive being pushed over the bar. The former Scottish Premiership player’s effort represented the hosts’ best chance of the game.

Cardiff sealed their victory when, with 56 minutes gone, they converted a penalty.

Next up for the Romans is a friendly against League One outfit Plymouth Argyle at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Saturday 18th July (3pm).

Odd Down, from Jewson Western League Division One, were beaten 2-1 by Wessex League Premier Division newcomers Sturminster Newton United in a friendly at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on 14th July.

The Cherries – who played alongside the Down in Western League Division One last season – led 1-0 at the break.

James Hare netted for the hosts in a fixture they described as a valuable run-out.

Odd Down will entertain Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division team Trowbridge Town in another friendly at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on 18th July (3pm).

And the Down will be on their travels on Tuesday 21st July, when they visit Bishops Cannings – another Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division outfit.
