The Seagulls, from Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s League Division One South, romped to an 8-1 victory over the Somerset County Women’s League Division Two leaders.

Weston, who led 4-1 at half-time in the Somerset Women’s Junior Cup second-round tie, opened the scoring with a fourth-minute goal from Sam Crew.

The lead was doubled through Vika Khandusenko five minutes later – and it was 3-0 in the 19th minute, Shannon Osman on target.

The Down pulled one back through Erin Cahoon in the 29th minute but the Seagulls struck again almost immediately, Laura Jones the scorer.

The second half was only three minutes old when Weston completed their nap hand, Khandusenko securing her brace.

Ruby Evans made it 6-1 in the 58th minute – and it could have been 7-1 shortly afterwards, a Crew free-kick cannoning off the Odd Down bar.

However, the reprieve was short-lived as Weston did net again in the 63rd minute, courtesy of Ellie Burrows.

And they rounded off the scoring in the 72nd minute. Eloise Hubbard got the goal with her first touch after coming back on, having been substituted at half-time.

Defender Daisy Laing was named player of the match for Odd Down, and Crew was picked out as Weston’s top performer.

The Down now have a break until Sunday 1st February, when they will take on second-placed Ashton Women in the league.

Bath City Women won their Somerset Women’s Junior Cup clash with Staplegrove Ladies – without playing.

The Romans, from Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s League Division One North, were due to host the Somerset County Women’s League Division Two basement side at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park.

But the Grove, who are based in Taunton, conceded the Sunday 18th January tie.

Next up for City is a league game at top-of-the-table Mangotsfield United Women on Sunday 25th January (2pm).

Bath City Women Development had no fixture on Sunday 18th January but will go to Weston Celtic Women on Sunday 25th January in the Somerset County Women’s League Chairman’s Cup first round (2pm).
