Odd Down took the lead at Premier Division outfit Oldland Abbotoians in the Jewson Western League’s Les Phillips Cup on Tuesday 14th October, but ended up bowing out of the competition.

Treyvond Anderson put the minnows in front after 35 minutes at the Aitchison Playing Field.

But South Gloucestershire club Oldland hit back in the second half with two goals from Cash Vinall.

Both sides finished the encounter with 10 players. Visitors’ substitute David Hare was shown the red card, and Abbotonians’ Owen Lingard also received his marching orders.

Odd Down suffered a third defeat in their last four Western League Division One matches when they hosted Bristol Telephones on Saturday 11th October.

The Down crashed to a 3-1 reverse at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground to make it back-to-back league losses following the setback at Warminster Town the previous weekend.

Telephones led 2-0 at half-time and struck again early in the second period to effectively kill the match as a contest.

A free-kick from Liam McCraken opened the scoring and Steff Lee doubled the visitors’ advantage.

Leon Britton completed Telephones’ tally but Alfie Andrews pulled one back for the Down with 15 minutes remaining.

Promotion-chasing Telephones’ victory meant they completed the double over Odd Down this season, having recorded a 3-1 success at the BTRA Ground on Saturday 16th August. The winners also led 2-0 at half-time in that match.

The Down will be looking for their fifth league victory of the season on Saturday 18th October – but it will be tough, as they visit table-topping Devizes Town (3pm).

Odd Down face their biggest game of the campaign on Tuesday 21st October, when they host Yeovil Town in the first round of the Francis Hillier Premier Cup, formerly the Somerset Premier Cup (7.45pm).

Odd Down Development will return to Trophies of Radstock Mid Somerset League action on Saturday 18th October, when they take on Chew Magna Reserves at Stowey Road, Clutton, in Division One (2pm).

And Odd Down Women are due to resume their Somerset County Women’s League Division Two season on Sunday 19th October, at Bishops Lydeard Ladies Reserves (2pm). However, Lydeard have conceded two matches already this term, including their Sunday 12th October fixture at Portishead Town Ladies A.

The unbeaten Down have lost top spot in the league and now lie in second place, Street Women taking advantage of their inactivity on Sunday 12th October to go above them by winning 4-1 at Wincanton Town Ladies.
