The Down travelled to the King George V Recreation Ground in fine fettle, having dispatched Yeovil Town from the Francis Hillier Premier Cup on Tuesday 21st October and drawn at unbeaten championship-hopefuls Devizes Town three days earlier.
But Avonmouth, who are in only their second season at Step 6, prevailed thanks to a 75th-minute goal from Josh Pearce to leave them with 10 points out of a possible 12 during October.
The result left Odd Down in 14th place in the table, with four wins, four draws and eight defeats from their 16 games. However, the Bath club are well clear of relegation trouble.
The Down will face another of the leading teams, Wells City, on Saturday 1st November. The Mendip side will make the trip to the Lew Hill Memorial Ground looking to extend the goal-difference of 22 that has helped propel them into the play-off berths. Kick-off will be at 3pm.

Odd Down Development emerged winners of the Trophies of Radstock Mid Somerset League Division One top-of-the-table clash on Saturday 25th October, beating visitors Meadow Rangers 3-2.
Both sides went into the match at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground with unbeaten records, but the league-leading Devs took the honours 3-2.
It was 1-1 at half-time, Balla Jobe having given the hosts a ninth-minute lead.
Second-half goals came from Alfie Prescott and substitute Ghassan Saqqa.
But Odd Down had another of their replacements, Jared Smith-Core, sent off in injury-time.
Tom Smith and Will Gould were the Meadow marksmen.
Odd Down Development’s next league match is at Haydon Sports on Saturday 8th November.
Odd Down Women destroyed visitors Porlock Ladies 6-0 on Sunday 26th October to regain top spot in Somerset County Women’s League Division Two.
With Street Women losing 1-0 at home to Ilminster Town Ladies, the Down knocked the Tannery Ground team off the summit.
Basement side Porlock were 2-0 adrift at half-time and ended up with a hammering that would have made the journey back to Exmoor seem even longer.
Erin Cahoon bagged a hat-trick at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground – she also netted a treble against Bath City Women Development in the League Cup four weeks earlier – and the other goals came from Ella Ashley, Kira Macer and substitute Elise Macer.
Macy Jones was named the Down’s player of the match.
Odd Down Women will have a weekend off before visiting second-placed Ashton Women, from Bristol, on Sunday 9th November.
