Odd Down led at half-time but ended up beaten 4-2 when they travelled to promotion-chasing Sturminster Newton United in Jewson Western League Division One on Saturday 15th November.

In front of a crowd at 118 at Barnetts Field, Elliot Bevis gave the Cherries an 18th-minute lead.

But the visitors turned the game on its head with two goals in 11 minutes to hold a 2-1 advantage at the break in North Dorset.

Harley Alexander equalised in the 20th minute and Joe Paradise put the Down ahead in the 31st minute.

Buddy O’Shea levelled for Stur 10 minutes into the second period and it looked as though Odd Down were going to head back home with a creditable draw.

But two goals in the closing stages ensured United claimed maximum points.

Substitute George Coleman put the Cherries back in front in the 77th minute. And man-of-the-match Will Guppy sealed their success when he found the net with seven minutes remaining.

Odd Down’s defeat left them in the 14th place in the table. But success for Stur left them in sixth spot, two points outside the play-off zone.

The Down will be looking for their sixth win of the league campaign when they host 18th-placed Cheddar at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on Saturday 22nd November (3pm).

Meanwhile, the Down’s Western League derby at home to Keynsham Town on Boxing Day, Friday 26th December, will kick-off at noon.

Odd Down Development progressed to the third stage of the Somerset Intermediate Cup without playing.

Perry Street League Division Two team Combe St Nicholas Colts, their scheduled opponents, conceded the second-round tie that was due to take place at Slades Cross on Saturday 15th November.

Odd Down Development will have another blank Saturday on 22nd November. But they will be back in action on Saturday 29th November when they host lowly Frome Town United Reserves in Trophies of Radstock Mid Somerset League Division One.
