Odd Down celebrate two wins over Wiltshire League opposition

Odd Down eased to a 3-0 success against Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division side Bishops Cannings in a pre-season friendly at Green Lane, Devizes, on Tuesday 21st July.

A spokesman for the Bath side said: “A good performance and another valuable run-out for the lads as preparations for the new season continue.

“The Down’s goals came from Alfie Andrews (2) and Charlie Saunders.

“A big thank you to Bishops Cannings for hosting us. We wish everyone at the club the very best for their upcoming Wiltshire League campaign.”

Odd Down overcame another Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division team, Trowbridge Town, 2-1 in a friendly at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on Saturday 18th July. The match was level at 1-1 at the break.

The Odd Down spokesman said: “Another positive performance and valuable minutes in the legs for the first team as preparations for the new season continue.

“The Down’s goals came from Will Gould and Ryan Gay in an encouraging outing.

“A big thank you to Trowbridge Town for a competitive pre-season fixture. We wish everyone at the club the very best for the upcoming Wiltshire League campaign.”

New signing Gay is a striker who has played in the Southern League for Paulton Rovers.

Odd Down have also signed Lenny Gale and Seth Johnson as they build towards their Jewson Western League Division One campaign under new manager Tom Smith.

Attacker Gale has spent time with Devizes Town, Calne Town, Shepton Mallet, Oldland Abbotonians and Welton Rovers.

The Down will be on the road again on Saturday 25th July, when they visit uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division team Bradford Town for a friendly (3pm).

Odd Down had been due to go to uhlsport Somerset County League Premier Division outfit Congresbury for a warm-up game that afternoon, but the fixture has been cancelled due to pitch issues.

A Melksham Town XI will visit the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on Tuesday 28th July for the Mark Brown Memorial Cup match.

Brown, who died in March 2023, was manager of the Down’s development team and previously played for Melksham.

Odd Down Development will begin their pre-season friendlies on 25th July – with a fixture against Somerset County League Division Three club Tunley Athletic. Kick-off at Tunley Recreation Centre will be at 3pm.
