Odd Down bounce back from defeat to see off Somerset League hosts

Odd Down bounced back from defeat in their opening pre-season friendly to get the better of Imperial on Saturday 11th July.

Under new boss Tom Smith for the first time, the Down lost 1-0 at Larkhall Athletic Development on Wednesday 8th July.

But they put that setback at the Camella Stadium behind them to overcome uhlsport Somerset County League Division One side Imperial.

The game was played on the artificial pitch at South Bristol Sports Centre’s Imperial Sports Ground.

And Odd Down – from Jewson Western League Division One – emerged 2-1 victors, all of the goals coming in the second half.

James Hare and Jack Kelsey were on target for the visitors.

A spokesman for the winners said: “Another valuable run-out for the lads as preparations continue for the new season, with more important minutes in the legs.

“A big thank-you to Imperial for their hospitality and a competitive pre-season fixture. We wish everyone at the club the very best for the upcoming season.”

Odd Down’s next friendly will be tomorrow, Tuesday 14th July, when they face Sturminster Newton United at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground (7.30pm).

The North Dorset team are preparing for their debut in the Wessex League Premier Division, having gone up to Step 5 by winning promotion through the Western League Division One play-offs in April.

The Down have added Oscar Morris and Charlie Saunders to their retained list, meaning 11 players are currently signed on for first-team action.

The retained list now comprises Josh Hewlett, Jasper Morris, Joe Paradise, Tobey Snelling, Alfie Kelsey, Alfie Andrews, Lewis Bahadur, James Book, Matthew Pritchard, Morris and Saunders.

The club spokesman said: “We’re delighted to have this talented group of players continuing their journey with Odd Down as we build towards the new campaign.”
