Odd Down caused an upset, on paper at least, when they beat Yeovil Town 1-0 in the first round of the Francis Hillier Premier Cup – formerly the Somerset Premier Cup – on Tuesday 21st October.

Although the Glovers, the top club in the competition and its winners on more than 20 occasions, fielded a largely youthful side, former Bristol Rovers, Stevenage and Harrogate Town man James Daly was one of two first-teamers to feature at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground.

It was 0-0 at the break – but Yeovil paraded an entirely under-19 team in the second half and Odd Down took control, winning with a 75th-minute goal from substitute Alfie Andrews.

Young midfielder Tobey Snelling made his first-team debut for the Down, who named Jasper Morris their man of the match.

Odd Down went into the cup tie on the back of an impressive 1-1 draw at championship-chasing Devizes Town in Jewson Western League Division One on Saturday 18th October.

Treyvond Anderson’s header at the back post put the visitors ahead after eight minutes. But, in front of a crowd of 147, Devizes levelled nine minutes later through Daniel Demkiv.

The Down face another of the big boys on Saturday 25th October, when they travel to Avonmouth (3pm).

Odd Down Development scored a goal in each half to win 2-0 at Chew Magna Reserves in Trophies of Radstock Mid Somerset League Division One on Saturday 18th October.

Jamie Bevan broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute – and Tyrone Mulholland sealed victory by netting 12 minutes from the end.

Scott Eades was the winners’ top performer.

The top two in the division will meet at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground on Saturday 25th October as leaders Odd Down take on second-placed Meadow Rangers (2pm). Both sides are unbeaten.

Also unbeaten are Odd Down Women, who hit a pair of second-half goals to secure a 2-0 success at struggling Bishops Lydeard Ladies Reserves in Somerset County Women’s League Division Two on Sunday 19th October.

Ella Ashley and Elise Macer were on target for the Down, who picked Isabella Chee as their player of the match.

Odd Down Women will receive Porlock Ladies, from Exmoor, in the league on Sunday 26th October (2pm).
