New loan signing nets as Larks ease past Kidlington in FA Cup

Watched by a crowd of 80 at Yarnton Road, the Larks built up a three-goal cushion in the extra preliminary round clash, only for the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North outfit to reduce the deficit in the closing stages.

Athletic will find out tonight, Tuesday 11th August, who they will face in the next stage.

The draw has paired them with the winners of the Ardley United-Portishead Town tie, but those sides played out a goal-less draw on 8th August and will replay in North Somerset this evening.

The preliminary-round fixture will take place at the Camella Stadium on Saturday 22nd August.

Seb Scott gave Larkhall an eighth-minute lead in Oxfordshire – and, playing their opening competitive game of 2026-27, they took that slender advantage into the break.

However, young striker Jensen Wakefield – a new signing on loan from Frome Town – doubled the lead and substitute Freddie King was on target to put the match beyond Kidlington, who went into it having lost both of their league games this season.

It was not until the 83rd minute that the hosts got onto the scoresheet, substitute Fraser Allen putting the ball away shortly after coming on.

The Larks will kick-off their Pitching In Southern League Division One South campaign at the Camella Stadium on Wednesday 12th August when they entertain fallen giants Weymouth, who were in the National League as recently as 2022.

The Terras were not involved in the FA Cup on 8th August. Instead they began their Southern League season by routing Dorset neighbours and fellow relegated side Dorchester Town 5-1 in front of 2,272 people at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Kick-off on 12th August will be at 7.45pm.

Larkhall will visit Brislington, of the Jewson Western League Premier Division, in the first round of the Francis Hillier Premier Cup – formerly the Somerset Premier Cup – on a date to be fixed in September.

Former Athletic goal-ace Dawid Regula scored on his competitive debut for Shaftesbury on 8th August, but the North Dorset team went on to lose 2-1 at home to Bishops Cleeve in Southern League Division One South.

Regula, who struck 23 times for the Larks during 2025-26, made the switch to the Rockies in June.

Larkhall Development started their Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division campaign by beating Melksham Town Reserves 2-0 at the Camella Stadium on 8th August.

Ben Wickens and James Okell got the goals.

A spokesman for the winners said: “Two good sides, with Larks sharper in the last third being the key difference. Two cracking goals.”

The victory gave the Devs revenge for their defeat by Melksham in last season’s Fountain Trophies Senior Cup final.

Next up for Larkhall is a Premier Division encounter with Hungerford Town Development at the Camella Stadium on Saturday 15th August (3pm).
