Larkhall down Devizes in friendly but Devs beaten by Welton

Larkhall Athletic cruised to a 4-1 victory over uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division team Devizes Town in a friendly on Saturday 25th July.

The Larks, who play in the higher-grade Pitching In Southern League Division One South, established a four-goal advantage at the Camella Stadium before Devizes pulled one back near the end.

Among the scorers for the winners were Will Banks and summer signing Stan Wyatt.

The game was Devizes’ third against Southern League opponents in the space of eight days, following fixtures against Melksham Town and Hungerford Town.

Larkhall Development were beaten when they faced Jewson Western League Division One side Welton Rovers in a friendly on Thursday 23rd July.

Midsomer Norton-based Welton were 3-1 winners at the Camella Stadium, having built up a three-goal cushion inside the first 60 minutes. It was 2-0 at half-time.

The Devs had already defeated Western League Division One members Mendip Broadwalk and Odd Down in warm-up matches this summer.

Larkhall Development will begin their Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division campaign at home to Melksham Town Reserves – their conquerors in last term’s Fountain Trophies Senior Cup final – on Saturday 8th August.

The following Saturday, 15th August, Athletic will entertain Hungerford Town Development.

The Larks’ opening away game will be at Pewsey Vale on Tuesday 18th August, and it will be followed by another road trip on Saturday 22nd August – to Fairford Town Reserves.

Larkhall Devs’ Fountain Trophies Senior Cup campaign will commence in the second round, away to Corsham-based Park United on a date to be confirmed. Both sides have a bye in the opening stage.

Athletic’s new A team will be in action at the Camella Stadium on Saturday 1st August, when they take on FC Devizes United, from the Trowbridge & District League, in a friendly.

Larkhall A will play in Waterhouse Financial Advisers Mid Somerset League Division Two during 2026-27. The league season will get under way on Saturday 5th September.
