City beaten by Tier 6 newcomers, Odd Down ready for opener

Bath City Women went down 3-2 when they faced Bristol Brunel in a friendly at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park on Sunday 26th July.

Brunel have been promoted to the Tier 6 South West Regional Women’s League Division One North, after winning Gloucestershire County Women’s League Division One with an unbeaten record last season.

And they made a bright start against the Romans, who will compete in the new South West Regional Women’s League Division One Central during 2026-27.

Polly Williams hit the bar early on for the visitors but found the net shortly afterwards.

Brunel extended their lead in the 20th minute, Evie Grant burying the loose ball after an effort hit the Bath bar.

But City reduced the arrears in the 49th minute, Jess Evans scoring following good work by Sophie Storey.

It was not long before Brunel regained their two-goal cushion. Liv Hurley was on target, pouncing on the rebound following a save by Romans’ custodian Lucy Clay.

However, Bath – who beat Cirencester Town Ladies 2-1 the previous weekend in their first friendly of the summer – struck again when Beth Edwards let fly from 25 yards after 63 minutes.

City’s next friendly will be away to South Gloucestershire side Frampton Rangers Ladies on Sunday 9th August.

Frampton are members of South West Regional Women’s League Division One North.

The match, at Yate Town’s South West Interiors Stadium on Lodge Road, will begin at 2pm.

Odd Down Women will visit Weston-super-Mare Women on Sunday 2nd August for their first friendly.

The game will be played at the Optima Stadium’s 3G facility, kicking-off at 2pm.

The Down are gearing up for life in Somerset County Women’s League Division One, having secured the Division Two title last season.

Weston will play one level higher than Odd Down during 2026-27 – as members of South West Regional Women’s League Division One Central.
