Cahoon bags hat-trick as Odd Down Women shock Romans in cup

Erin Cahoon hit a hat-trick as Odd Down Women produced a derby shock in the second round of the Somerset County Women’s League Cup.

The Down, who are top of Division Two, overcame hosts Bath City Women Development, from Division One, 5-3 at the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Sunday 28th September.

Also on target for the visitors, who led 2-1 at half-time, were Ella Ashley and substitute Olivia Brain.

Unsurprisingly, Odd Down named Cahoon their player of the match.

Georgia Heilmann, Oliwia Kozlowska and substitute Ceris Evans struck for the Romans.

On Sunday 5th October, City Development will visit Banwell Ladies in Division One – and the Down will receive Portishead Town Ladies A in Division Two. Both games will get under way at 2pm.

Bath’s senior XI recorded their first victory in Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s Football League Division One North when they beat guests Gloucester City Reserves 2-0 on Sunday 28th September.

The Romans dominated the first half but it took them until just before the break to open the scoring. Katie Davies set up Tara Taylor – and she surged clear and crossed for Poppy Spratt to fire home.

Bath remained in the ascendancy after the interval, and it came as no surprise when they struck again – in the 63rd minute. Taylor cut through the Gloucester defence and shot, only for the ball to hit the inside of a post. It rebounded to Taylor who presented Adella Clarke with the chance to volley into the net from close range.

Downend Flyers will provide the Romans’ opposition in the league on Sunday 5th October, the game at the Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park kicking-off at 2pm.

Bath City’s men will return to action on Saturday 4th October, when they visit Farnborough in Enterprise National League South (3pm).

The Romans, who had no game last weekend, are in 18th spot in the table, with the Hampshire side two places below them.

City’s last match saw them lose 1-0 at home to Chelmsford City in the league on Saturday 20th September.

Bath’s under-18s crashed out of the FA Youth Cup in emphatic fashion, losing 4-1 at home to Forest Green Rovers on Wednesday 1st October in the second qualifying round.

Rovers notched all their goals in the opening 26 minutes to as good as kill the game as a contest, Thomas Conteh and Billy Glover both scoring twice. Glover’s haul for the Nailsworth-based team included a penalty.

City reduced the deficit early in the second half, Owen Pritchard’s corner being diverted into the Forest Green net by the visitors’ keeper Callum Godfrey.
