An afternoon of disability sport was hosted by University of Bath Students’ Union Sport at the University’s campus yesterday.

The event took place less than two years after the London 2012 Games and just days after the completion of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Paralympic Games.
The afternoon was open to all students as well as some invited disabled people from the local community in an attempt to foster an inclusive atmosphere and promote ties between the University and the local community.
There was a variety of activities for participants to get to grips with including wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, visually impaired tennis, blind football, para-triathlon and adaptive rowing.
The event was organised by Tom Janicot, University of Bath Students’ Union Sports Officer.
He said: “The University has developed a very successful partnership with Paralympics GB over the past few years, yet until now there was no visible link to the student body.”
As the training base for some of Britain’s Paralympic athletes, the University is well placed to offer a unique experience to its student population.
The event attracted the support of Paralympic sprinter and London 2012 bronze medallist Ben Rushgrove.
Rushgrove, a University of Bath graduate who trains at the Sports Training Village, said: “I am pleased to support the attempt been made to build on the London 2012 legacy, and to support Tom and his team to make the event a success.”
