Nearly 1,000 cyclists joined Bike Bath this year, which took place last weekend, making it one of the largest city cycling events in the South West.
The event, now in its fourth year, has built its reputation by offering great routes, fantastic feed stations, a relaxed friendly atmosphere and a great community spirit with over 30 local businesses getting involved in some way.
Riders from the city, local area and all over the UK travelled to take part in the annual cycling event.
The day started with the cloud clearing and the first group of the 80 mile riders leaving the Rec at 7.30am as the sun started to peak through.
All groups of riders had departed the Rec and were out on the routes by 10.30am.
British Cycling have supported the development of the event since its conception along with a number of businesses including HPH Property, Cyclescheme, Carter Jonas, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Withy King, The Bath Chronicle, BMW, Sally Lunns and Waitrose.
Cyclists of all abilities took part in Bike Bath – some liked to challenge themselves to see if they could complete their chosen distance in a personal best time, whilst others enjoyed the routes, taking in the scenery and having a leisurely feast and re-fuel at the feed stations.
Riders received a medal before heading to the Bath Ales marquee to enjoy the post-ride atmosphere including a hot meal provided by the 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment.
The team at Physio Impulse had a busy day offering a post-ride massage and there wasn’t a time when the three physio beds weren’t occupied.
The largest team to enter this year was Bathavon Rotary Club.
The day finished in glorious sunshine and smiles all round.
There were lots of positive comments and feedback, such as Hamish from Bristol saying: “Cracking 50 mile ride in the sun through some great countryside – thanks to all who organised and supported.”
Becca from Southampton said: “Amazing experience, especially cycling through the two tunnels – happy cyclists.”
Jamie from Corsham added: “First sportive I’ve done where I put weight on, cracking food, both cake and hot food!”
