Wet end to Bear Flat’s season – 1sts finish fourth, 2nds relegated
Bear Flat 1st XI wrapped up a disappointing final month of the season by being beaten – by the weather.

Rain ensured that no play was possible in Bear Flat’s 1st XI and 2nd XI fixtures in the Somerset League on Saturday 29th August
The Bears were due to face Wincanton 1st XI at Wincanton Recreation Ground in Somerset League Division Four on Saturday 29th August but the match was rained off and the sides bagged 12 points apiece.
At least the outcome halted a run of four successive defeats in August for the Bath team, who had gone into the month at the top of the table.
But they lost to Glastonbury 1st XI, Kilmington & Stourton 1st XI, Holford 1st XI and Crewkerne 1st XI to tumble not only out contention for the title but also a promotion place.
The Bears finished fourth in the table, with nine wins, a draw and six defeats from their 18 matches. They picked up 425 points.
Trull 1st XI won the title with 494 points, Holford bagged the runners-up spot with 486 points and are also promoted, and Glastonbury amassed 439 points to come third.
Fifth-placed Kilmington & Stourton secured 391 points.
Bear Flat 2nd XI earned 12 points from the closing match of their Somerset League Division Six North campaign, a rained-off fixture at Burnham-on-Sea 2nd XI on 29th August.
The Bears finished second-bottom of the table and are relegated along with basement side Harptree Villages.
Bear Flat will stage their annual meeting on Wednesday 11th November (7pm). It will be held at The Glasshouse Playing Fields.
