Three Hampset sides promoted as memorable 2026 league season ends
Round-up of Hampset Cricket Club’s matches – Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August.

Hampset’s 1st XI, 3rd XI and Sunday XI have all won promotion this year. The 2nd XI finished runners-up in their league but only the champions go up from that section
Hampset 1st XI have finished in the Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Three promotion places – despite losing their final game of the season.
The Scorpions went into Round 18 on Saturday 29th August knowing that their destiny was still in their own hands following a defeat by Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury 2nd XI a week earlier.
But they were beaten by lowly Winterbourne 2nd XI on the final day of the campaign and bagged six points, meaning results elsewhere were key.
Hampset finished in second place in the table, 12 points behind table-topping Frenchay 2nd XI.
The Scorpions ended up three points ahead of third-placed Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury. Stoke lost narrowly to Frampton Cottrerell 1st XI on 29th August and collected six points from that game, which was reduced by rain to 25 overs per side.
Hampset finished eight points in front of fourth-placed Bristol Sri Lankans 1st XI, whose 29th August clash with Failand & Portbury was rained off. Both of those sides earned six points.
And the Bloomfield Rise outfit were 10 points ahead of Carsons & Mangotsfield 1st XI, who had to settle for fifth spot after taking six points from their 29th August fixture at Frenchay, which was also claimed by the weather.
Put in by hosts Winterbourne in a game cut by the elements to 20 overs per side, Hampset clocked up 163-5.
They had been 65-4 but Dan Williams and Josh Smith got them out of a hole by adding 71 for the fifth wicket.
Smith was run out for a run-a-ball 16 but Williams finished undefeated on 84 from 47 deliveries, his knock featuring seven sixes and three fours.
Arjun Chib picked up 2-17 from four overs for Winterbourne, who reached 61 without loss in reply but slipped to 76-3 thanks to a trio of wickets for Freddy Hiscott.
The South Gloucestershire team rallied to 112-3. Back came Hampset, striking four more times to leave Winterbourne 147-7.
However, with Amit Chib scoring 13 not out from six balls, the hosts made it to 164-7 with two balls remaining, opener Suleman Butt top-scoring on 31.
Hiscott pocketed 3-20 from four overs. Sam Marquiss returned 2-33 off 3.4 overs.
Hampset 2nd XI finished second in Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Seven East but are not promoted as only the champions make the step up from this section.
The Scorpions’ last game of the season – at home to Bristol Sri Lankans 2nd XI on 29th August – was rained off.
Hampset 3rd XI won the Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Nine East title and are promoted.
Their 29th August game with visitors Bitton 2nd XI resulted in a walkover for the Scorpions, who topped the table by five points from runners-up Midsomer Norton 3rd XI.
Hampset Sunday XI finished second in North Somerset League Sunday Conference Division Three and are promoted.
However, the Scorpions lost their closing match – by 42 runs at home to Old Cathedralians Sunday 1st XI on Sunday 30th August.
Opting to bat at Bloomfield Rise, the old boys made 268-5 in their 40 overs.
The platform for their total was a first-wicket stand worth 160 between Bhavesh Patel (73) and Parth Pandya (69). Number five Syed Bukhari weighed in with 56.
Saf Mahar took 2-62 from seven overs for Hampset, whose response ended at 226 all out in 35.1 overs.
Number seven Willis Skardon fell tantalisingly short of a century, bowled for 97 off 60 balls. He cracked half-a-dozen sixes and nine fours before becoming one of Abhijit Parab’s three victims.
Richie Manoher also took three wickets.
