The hosts were pipped by three runs by Old Bristolians Westbury 1st XI in their opener, having been restricted to 94-9 off their 20 overs.

However, Lansdown seemed to have the upper hand when the visitors crashed to 30-5 after electing to bat.

But Jino Jojo stood firm. He smashed 44 off 32 deliveries, his knock including a six and half-a-dozen boundaries.

The hosts presented Old Bristolians Westbury with 27 extras – and that proved key in the final analysis, the visitors all out for 97 in 16.1 overs.

Josh Smith (3-13 off four overs) and Tommy Henly (3-18 from three overs) were the most successful Lansdown bowlers.

Only Praneel Choughule offered serious resistance in the response, Lansdown having tumbled to 16-3. Batting at number five, Choughule hit a six and seven fours in his 46-ball 48.

Dan Veal (14 not out) was the only other home batter to get into double figures, Vedanta Gadia taking 3-18 in four overs for the old boys.

Lansdown conceded their second match of the day, to Weston-super-Mare 1st XI, after being 17-2 from 3.3 overs.

The seasiders went into that fixture having thumped Old Bristolians Westbury by 180 runs.

Lansdown finished bottom of Group 4.

Rain caused the abandonment of all three of the Lansdown club’s league matches on Saturday 2nd May.

Lansdown 1st XI opted to field at Weston 1st XI in West of England Premier League Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset but were given a tough time as the hosts clocked up 282-9 in 50 overs.

The game started very well for the Bath outfit, as Smith bowled Adam Sylvester for a duck to leave the seasiders 10-1.

However, opener Steven Snell and number three Cameron Melly piled on 99 for the second wicket in 14.2 overs to turn the tide.

Melly was the man to go, caught off Matthew Thomas for 54 – with nine boundaries – from 47 balls.

Snell finally fell for 106, having added 95 for the third wicket with captain Ranitha Liyanarachchi (63).

Snell, who was bowled by Choughule, faced 109 deliveries and hit three sixes and 13 fours.

Nobody else scored more than 16, although there were 18 extras.

Sam Pearce was the leading wicket-taker, snapping up 3-43 off 10 overs.

No play was possible in the Lansdown innings, Weston earning 11 points and the visitors bagging 10.

Lansdown 2nd XI were asked to field by Bristol 3rd XI at Combe Park in Bristol & District Cricket Association Division One – but the match was beaten by the weather after the guests were shot out for 182 in 40 overs.

Extras (30) top-scored for Bristol, who crashed from 63-1 to 87-5.

Sam Bowery snared 3-16 off eight overs – and Alex Bindloss picked up 1-10 in eight miserly overs.

Both sides went away with 10 points.

The weather meant that Lansdown 3rd XI and hosts Bristol Lions 2nd XI managed only 29.4 overs’ play in Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Nine East.

The Lions opted to bat and were 98-9 when the end came, Giles Johnson (4-17 off 7.4 overs) and Christopher Edwards (3-11 from four overs) the Lansdown bowling stars.

Number three Chandana Jayasena (44) was the Lion’s chief run-getter. Abid Hussain (18) was the only other batter to get into double figures, although there were 23 extras.

Lansdown secured 19 points and the Lions garnered six.
