No play for Lansdown men’s sides but women lose table-top tussle

Lansdown 1st XI will be the top cricket team in Bath next season.

Having won the West of England Premier League Premier 2 Bristol / Somerset title on Saturday 22nd August, the side from Combe Park would have been relishing derbies against Bath 1st XI in Premier 1 next year.

However, the North Parade outfit suffered relegation on Saturday 29th August.

The same afternoon, Lansdown’s closing match in Premier 2 was rained off.

They were due to take on Downend 1st XI but the game at the WG Grace Memorial Ground was abandoned because of the weather.

Lansdown finished the season with 293 points from their 18 matches, of which 13 were won.

Only two defeats were suffered and Lansdown ended up 27 points clear of runners-up Taunton Deane 1st XI.

Downend took third spot, a point behind Deane.

Just the champions of the pair of Premier 2 divisions are promoted.

Royal Wootton Bassett 1st XI won the Premier 2 Gloucestershire / Wiltshire title and will join Lansdown in the top flight during 2027.

The bad weather meant Lansdown 2nd XI missed out on the chance of winning the Bristol & District Cricket Association Division One title on 29th August – but they have secured promotion thanks to finishing second.

Their home game against Timsbury 1st XI was claimed by the elements, both sides picking up six points.

That left Lansdown 12 points adrift of leaders Cleeve 1st XI, whose 29th August game at Shirehampton 1st XI was also rained off.

Lansdown finished 14 points in front of third-placed Claverham (Yatton) 1st XI, another side who were frustrated by the weather on 29th August.

Claverham’s match at home to Lodway 1st XI was beaten by the rain, the visitors ending up in fourth spot.

Lansdown 3rd XI took 10 points from their Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Nine East encounter at Knowle 4th XI on 29th August, the hosts conceding the fixture. Lansdown finished fourth in the table.

Second-placed Lansdown Women’s 1st XI lost by 44 runs at table-toppers Chard Women’s 1st XI in their Somerset Women’s T20 Blitz Division Two finale on Sunday 30th August.

The South Somerset side clocked up 119-8 in their 20 overs after choosing to bat against the 10-player guests, extras (39) leading the way.

Best with the willow for Chard at Dening Field was opener Skye Northover (26).

Ellie Hoyle bagged 3-14 from four overs for Lansdown, and there were two scalps apiece for Isabelle Gallagher and Corrine Durnford.

Lansdown’s reply ended at 75 all out from 17.1 overs, extras (30) also top-scoring in this innings.

Number five Gallagher (17) made the only double-figure contribution with the bat.

Chard’s Milly Stewart and Hollie Knight each pocketed two wickets.
