Lansdown 1sts bounce back to see off Saints, Devs skittled for 95

Round-up of Lansdown Cricket Club’s matches – Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July.

Lansdown 1st XI bounced back from their surprise defeat by Twyford House 1st XI to see off hosts Taunton St Andrews 1st XI and keep up the pressure in the race for the West of England Premier League Premier 2 Bristol / Somerset title.

The Bath outfit lost by 41 runs at Twyford House on Saturday 11th July but responded well when they visited St Andrews on Saturday 18th July.

Lansdown prevailed by 28 runs at The Wyvern Club and remain in second place in the table, two points behind table-toppers Taunton Deane 1st XI with six rounds of matches remaining.

The travellers posted 226-8 in their 50 overs after choosing to bat, a decent total considering they had crumbled to 104-6. Of the top order, only Tejas Bante (32) offered much resistance.

Noah Davis and Sam Pearce got the innings back on track with a seventh-wicket stand that yielded 88 runs.

Pearce was the man to go, caught for a top-scoring 64 off 82 balls. His knock featured a six and half-a-dozen fours.

Number five Davis was undefeated on 43 at the close, the home team’s Toby William-Thomas (3-29 off 10 overs) and Joe Wadham (3-44 in eight overs) the most successful bowlers.

The Saints slipped to 8-2 in reply. Nick Watson (27) and James Salaman (29) added 57 for the third wicket but their side then crashed to 96-6.

But Williams-Thomas was still there – and he and number nine Wadham frustrated Lansdown.

The pair put on 59 for the eighth wicket, a partnership that was instrumental in St Andrews seeing out the overs.

Williams-Thomas was eventually ousted for 48 but Wadham stood firm with 40 not out as the team from the county town reached 198-9 off 50 overs.

Pearce (3-25 from 10 overs) and Josh Smith (3-39 off 10 overs) took the bulk of the wickets but Alex Bindloss sent down seven miserly overs for one victim and only 12 runs conceded.

Lansdown 2nd XI and Bath 3rd XI served up a tie in their Bristol & District Cricket Association Division One derby at Combe Park on 18th July.

With opener Adam Carlin (56) and captain and number three Dan Veal (55) leading the way, Lansdown made 222-7 in their 40 overs after electing to bat.

The third-largest contribution came from extras (36). Jackson Hamilton weighed in with 29 not out.

Harry Veal then took 3-39 in six overs as Bath responded with 222-6 off 40 overs.

Lansdown 3rd XI overcame Old Park 1st XI by five wickets with almost 20 overs to spare in a Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Nine East fixture at Bath Spa University Sports Ground on 18th July.

The visitors chose to bat but probably regretted the decision as they were held to 110-9 from their 40 overs. However, they had been 37-1.

Extras (31) top-scored and the leading batter was number three David Barker. He made 20 – nobody else on his side topped 13.

Tarapathi Polgollage bagged 3-22 from eight overs and Chris Edwards snared 3-25 in three overs.

Lansdown fell to 14-2 in reply but an unbeaten knock from skipper and number three Krish Mirchandani anchored the innings.

Although wickets tumbled around him, Mirchandani hit 49 not out – containing three sixes and four boundaries – off 59 deliveries to see the hosts to 112-5 from 20.2 overs.

Graham Brooks pocketed 3-31 in seven overs for Old Park.

Lansdown Sunday Development XI were dismissed for 95 by Bristol Indians 1st XI on Sunday 19th July and were thrashed by 138 runs.

Opting to bat in the North Somerset League Sunday Conference Division One match in Abbots Leigh, the table-topping Indians racked up 233-7 from 30 overs after an opening stand worth 91.

Lansdown hopes were raised when the hosts lost three wickets in the 140s to leave them five down.

Skipper Josh Smith pocketed 3-21 from six overs and there were two wickets apiece for Eoin Godfrey and Jack Andell.

Vish Mamgi top-scored with 51 for Bristol Indians.

Lansdown were reduced to 42-5 in reply but recovered to 82-5, Ashton Williams (27) and Noah Hornby (25) the leading scorers.

Williams was bowled by Sahil Waje – and then Rishabh Singh soon took control, snaffling the final four wickets on his way to 4-11 from 3.5 overs.

Lansdown were removed in 22.5 overs.
