A match round-up by Hampset Cricket Club – Saturday 16th August.

Hampset 2nd XI gave their Division Seven East survival hopes a big boost by beating Saltford Fairway 1st XI
Hampset 2nd XI secured a vital victory in their fight against relegation from Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Seven East, beating hosts Saltford Fairway 1st XI in a tight encounter on Saturday 16th August.
On winning the toss, Hampset elected to bat first with the aim of fielding later when the weather would be cooler.
The strategy paid off as they recorded a tense 11-run victory, defending a total of 234 and moving one step closer to securing their status in the division.
Hampset posted 234-5, led by a composed 55 from Gary Peters, who was named player of the match.
Peters was well supported by Henry Bolton (49), Oliver Rose (31), Oscar Costello (23) and Jon Hart (22 not out), all of whom contributed valuable runs in a disciplined batting display.
In reply, the opposition mounted a serious challenge, with half-centuries from Wes Taynton (61), Aiden Taynton (63) and Jake Evans-Jones (64 not out).
However, Hampset’s bowlers responded with discipline and key breakthroughs.
Hart and Jacob Marquiss each claimed two wickets. And Willis Skardon picked up 2-37, helping restrict the chase to 223-9.
While Peters took the spotlight, the victory was built on a collective effort, with several players contributing with both bat and ball.
Hampset now need one more win to cement their place in the league – and their recent form suggests they are well on track to do so.
Their opponents at Bloomfield Rise on Saturday 23rd August will be fourth-placed Midsomer Norton Methodist 1st XI.
