Hampset 1sts rout Frampton, Dolman slams century for Sunday XI

Round-up of Hampset Cricket Club’s matches – Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August.

Hampset 1st XI, 2nd XI and Sunday XI all won their league fixtures over the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August – and the 3rd XI dispatched touring side Loxwood

Hampset 1st XI dismissed visitors Frampton Cotterell 1st XI for 94 at Bloomfield Rise on Saturday 1st August and chalked up a six-wicket victory to keep up the pressure on the Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Three leaders.

Frampton opted to bat but were soon in enormous trouble at 10-4, Dan Roberts taking three of those wickets and Ethan Silcox the other.

Number six Robin Cater did his best to prevent complete humiliation, and in the context of the innings he fared superbly.

He hit a six and five fours on his way to 31 from 21 balls, his knock coming to an end when he was caught by Josh Smith off Freddy Hiscott.

Cater’s removal left Frampton 55-7 – and that became 66-9, Hiscott bagging another two wickets.

It was left to final pair Shivnarain Ravichandran and Oliver Roberts to try to save face.

In becoming the only other batters to reach double figures, they pushed the total towards 100 by crafting a stand that yielded 28 runs – the biggest partnership of the innings.

The end came when Hiscott bowled Roberts for 11, Frampton all out in 28 overs.

Ravichandran finished on 15 not out. There were 12 extras.

Hiscott, Silcox and Roberts claimed all the wickets between them, their respective figures being 4-13 from eight overs, 3-23 off eight overs and 3-31 in six overs.

Ashton Wright dominated the opening partnership in Hampset’s reply. The stand yielded 43 runs, Isaac Bogg ousted for 8.

When Wright was caught for 48 – off 45 deliveries and containing nine fours – the Scorpions were 65-3. But there was no danger of them failing to reach their target.

The demise of Williams for 12 came with only seven runs needed for victory, Hiscott (12 not out) and Smith (4 not out) seeing the hosts to 98-4 off 22.1 overs.

Harikrishna Kammula snaffled 2-31 from eight overs for Frampton.

Hampset 2nd XI stay hot on the heels of Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Seven East leaders Bristol Mavericks 1st XI thanks to a 58-run win at Stapleton 3rd XI on 1st August.

The Scorpions racked up 252-7 in their 40 overs after choosing to take first knock, five of the batters getting into the 30s.

An opening stand of 57 between Richard Holmes (30) and Oscar Costello (10) paved the way for the decent total.

Oliver Rose (30) and Charlie Dolman (34) added 61 for the third wicket.

And Jacob Marquiss (39) and captain Jon Hart (34 not out) put on 57 for the seventh wicket.

Imran Hussain (3-35 from six overs) and Aaman Syed (3-47 off seven overs) were the most successful Stapleton bowlers.

The hosts slipped to 23-2 in reply but a 72-run partnership for the third wicket, between Syed (43) and skipper Hussain (56), steadied the ship.

Hussain was then joined by Zeehan Shahzad (34) and they added 48 for the fourth wicket.

But Hussain’s exit triggered a collapse that saw Stapleton lose four wickets for 11 runs to leave them on 154-7.

Number nine Mohammed Mahmood smashed two sixes in his 15-ball 24 but the hosts were all out for 194 in 34.5 overs.

Marquiss pocketed 4-34 from 5.5 overs and Hart snared 3-36 off five overs.

Hampset 3rd XI skittled tourists Loxwood for 97 and recorded a six-wicket success in a friendly at Odd Down Playing Fields on 1st August.

The visitors from West Sussex played at Priston on Friday 31st July and at Westbury & District on Sunday 2nd August – and the game against the Scorpions was one of two they lost.

Having chosen to bat, Loxwood subsided from 28-1 to 77-8 and were ripped out in 29.2 overs, Oliver Reynolds (18) and extras (17) the leading scorers.

Louis Bishop topped the Hampset bowling charts with 4-12 off 3.2 overs.

The hosts – who had a bye in Bristol & District Cricket Association Division Nine East on 1st August because of Bristol Lions 2nd XI’s exit – overhauled Loxwood’s total in 19.2 overs, closing on 98-4.

Opener Deniel Daniels was the star, making 57 – featuring eight fours – off 60 balls.

Zach Whittle had 3-20 in eight overs for Loxwood.

Skipper Jon Dolman cracked a century as Hampset Sunday XI saw off struggling Clevedon 3rd XI by seven wickets at Bloomfield Rise in North Somerset League Sunday Conference Division Three.

The hosts were inserted on Sunday 2nd August and made 296 all out in 37 overs, number three Dolman blitzing his way to 106 from 46 balls. He hit nine sixes and 11 fours before offering a return catch to Lucas Vanstone.

Hampset had been 75-4 but Dolman and James Fairman (27) put on 79 for the fifth wicket.

But the largest partnership was 101, between Finley Richards (40) and Alfie Robinson (43), for the eighth wicket.

Clevedon did themselves no favours by conceding 43 extras.

Vanstone, Stan White and Zak Malpas grabbed two wickets apiece.

Seasiders’ opening pair Chris Bennett (70) and Sam Hine (95) made a fantastic start to the reply, piling up 182 for the first wicket.

But the floodgates opened after Hine was bowled by Shan Mahar and Clevedon ended up with 225-9 from their 40 overs.

White (14 not out) was the only other batter to get into double figures, although Hampset gifted 36 extras.

Willis Skardon was the pick of the home attack, returning 4-37 in seven overs.
