Captain Veal’s unbeaten knock inspires Lansdown 2nd XI to victory
An unbeaten 73 from captain Dan Veal inspired Lansdown 2nd XI to victory over Hambrook 1st XI in Bristol & District Cricket Association Division One.

With skipper Dan Veal hitting 73 not out, Lansdown 2nd XI got the better of Hambrook 1st XI on Saturday 16th August
The Down secured a 62-run triumph at Combe Park on Saturday 16th August.
Lansdown chose to bat but found themselves 39-2. However, opener Sam Athay was joined by Veal and the pair crafted a third-wicket stand worth 98. They were separated when Athay was caught for 52 off 93 balls.
Extras contributed 26 as the home side progressed to 173-5 from their 40 overs, Veal’s knock including a six and seven fours and coming off 91 deliveries.
Hambrook’s Cameron Perry collected 2-26 from four overs.
The South Gloucestershire team were in a pickle at 0-2 in reply. Runs finally came but the villagers were in dire straits at 58-5.
Then 79-5 became 80-8 and Hambrook were shot out for 111 in 32.1 overs, number three Ben Scrase by far their chief run-getter with 31.
James Wigzell and Mitch Vardy added 12 apiece and there were 25 extras.
Vijay Krishna was Lansdown’s most successful bowler, snapping up 3-25 in six overs.
Eddie Steedman and Sam Bowery each claimed two victims and bowled very economically in their respective eight overs.
The Down will face a tough test on Saturday 23rd August, when they entertain second-placed Midsomer Norton 2nd XI.
