The England beach volleyball pair of Lucy Boulton and Zara Dampney have finished 17th at the CEV European Beach Volleyball Championship Finals in Austria.
The pair, who do some of their training and receive sport science support at the University of Bath, secured a victory over the Czech pair of Hana Skalnikova and Patricia Missottenova to progress from pool G to the main draw.
But they were then just edged out of a place in round two with a narrow 22-24, 21-17, 15-13 defeat to the German number four seeds Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst. The Germans went on to take the bronze medal in the competition at Klagenfurt.
Team Bath science and medicine practitioners have worked with Dampney and Boulton for six years. Kate Eddy has worked closely with the team coordinating this support during this time and has been acting performance manager for the new combination during the transition from the London Olympic Games.
The pair both receive strength & conditioning, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology and sports massage support from Team Bath.
2013 has seen a good run of performances for the new combination including a fourth place at the CEV Satellite event in Montpellier, France in June and a successful run of main draw appearances on the FIVB world tour.
