Bath Rugby Ladies have earned a well-deserved win against Trojans in their match last Sunday.
Trojans led the initial phases of the game and demonstrated some strong attacking play.
However, a well timed run from Emily Sherwood allowed her to take an interception from Trojans and score between the posts. Fly half Sarah Holloway kicked the conversion and took the score line to 7-0.
A surge of confidence followed and allowed Bath to display the results of their hard work in training with continued pressure. Trojans demonstrated some good defensive work but the relentless attacking play from Bath ensured a substantial period in the visitor’s 22.
The scrums and line outs were highly competitive and Trojans demonstrated that they were still skilled at set piece. However, the Bath pack were victorious on several occasions which gave them the edge and allowed the backs to show their speed and agility, whilst all the time putting pressure on the Trojans defense.
Bath had a strong kicking game, which was coupled with excellent pressure from the wings; Bath’s newest recruit Amber Daum put huge pressure on the Trojan’s wing on several occasions, not allowing her to break Bath’s defensive line.
After half time, Bath spent a period within the visitor’s half which allowed Sarah Holloway to slot over a drop goal whilst penalty advantage was being played. This moved the score to 10-0. Further attacking pressure in the Trojans’ half resulted in a penalty being awarded against Trojans for not rolling away in the ruck, allowing Sarah Holloway to kick to the posts, further extending the lead to 13-0.
Bath’s strong attacking pressure and a quick penalty close to the visitor’s try line allowed fast thinking prop Vicky Heslop to deliver a pass expected of a high quality back to the powerful second row Rachel Bennett who steamed over the line for a forwards try which had clearly be inspired by Bath’s back line!
This final try, which was converted by Sarah Holloway, secured the final score to 20-0.
Bath are away on Sunday 14th April to Saracens Ladies and look to build on the strengths of their game from this week.
