Local residents are being encouraged to sign-up to Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile which takes place in Bath on Sunday 23rd March.

The Council, which is hosting the event at the Odd Down Cycle Circuit, is keen to get as many people as possible to sign-up and get active.

The event will raise money for Sport Relief, to help poor and vulnerable people both in the UK and across some of the world’s poorest countries.

Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council is proud to support the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile as we’re committed to helping people to get active.

“From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone on the big day. The good thing about this event is that people with a range of fitness levels can take part as there are options to run one, three or six miles.

“Last time, the Bath Mile had over 1,000 participants and raised thousands of pounds for Sport Relief. This year we want to make the day even bigger and better, but we need even more people to get their trainers on and join in the fun of the Sport Relief Mile.”

The event is set to take place on and around Bath’s new 1.5km cycle circuit; using the circuit wholly for the 1 milers and as a start and finish for the 3 and 6 milers – who will be venturing into the woods to add an off road dimension to the run.

To add even more fun and amusement into the event, fancy dress is encouraged and any unique ways to complete the 1 mile are welcomed – last time a group of students completed the mile on a space hopper!

There will even be a chance to get your face painted to assist your creativity. Everyone taking part will receive a Sport Relief medal.

To ensure participants are ready to run (walk/hop/skip!), Aquatera Leisure will be leading a group ‘warm up’ to get hearts pumping and limbs limber.

There will also be concessions stands on the day to provide the perfect ‘cool down’ for participants to have a victory treat and to provide sustenance to loyal supporters.

To make the most of the day and excellent facilities, Odd Down Cycle Circuit will also host a Go-by-Bike family session after all the miles have been conquered. If you’re feeling active and inspired from the mile, bring your bikes and get the whole family to join in.

To sign up, go to www.sportrelief.com and search for the Bath Mile. For updates on the day specific to the Bath mile ‘Like’ their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/getactivebathnes.
