The organisers of the Vitality Bath Half Marathon have launched a brand new Battle of the Bands competition, set to create an electric atmosphere at this year’s event.
The competition will offer local musical talent the opportunity to entertain 15,000 runners as they make their way around the popular half marathon course.
The organisers are inviting local bands and musicians to play on race day and contribute to the event’s inspirational atmosphere to get in touch.
Vitality Bath Half Marathon Race Director, Andrew Taylor, from Running High said: “We’re really excited to launch the Battle of the Bands competition in Bath this year as we’re certain it will be a big hit with our runners.
“We know how important a good atmosphere is on race day – not just in the race village but right around the 13.1 mile course.
“We are inviting local bands and musicians of all genres to get involved by putting their musical mark on the event and creating a great atmosphere for our runners.
“The Vitality BATHALF attracts 15,000 runners and 30,000 spectators each year, so this competition will provide a great platform for local musical talent to showcase their skills to a large, welcoming and captive audience.
“An even bigger benefit of playing at the Vitality BATHALF is that it has a two-lap course, so all runners will get to hear every act twice”.
The winning group will be awarded with a prize of £500. The winner will be decided by the runners themselves when they will be invited to vote for their favourite three bands after race day.
Andrew added: “Not only is this a great opportunity for local talent to showcase their music to a large audience, but we are also pleased to be able to donate a cash prize as a thank you to the band or group that gets voted as the winner by our runners.”
The organisers will provide every group with a designated pitch and marquee on the course route and electrical supply where required.
BBC Radio Bristol will preview the bands who are selected to play at the mass participation event, and the winning act will be invited into the studio after race day to perform a live song.
There are no specific requirements in order to be able to apply, but hopefuls will need their own equipment/instruments and they must be able to play entertaining and motivational music which is suitable for running.
The band or group leader must be at least 18 years old and will need to get in touch with the Vitality Bath Half Marathon on behalf of the band to register interest.
Those interested in getting involved should send an email with the band’s details and ideally a short video or link of online footage to [email protected] or call Dave Box on 07816 847028 for further information.
