Avonvale Rugby Club began pre-season training this week as they prepare to do battle in Counties 3 Tribute Ale Dorset & Wilts Central after a second successive relegation.

Avonvale Rugby Club will line up in Counties 3 Tribute Ale Dorset & Wilts Central this season after a second demotion

The club, based at Bathford Hill, finished bottom of Counties 2 Tribute Dorset & Wilts Central in 2024-25, with three victories from their 16 matches.

The previous season, the men in navy blue and white were stuck at the foot of Counties 1 Tribute Southern South, having been successful in only two of their 22 fixtures.

Among their derby games at Level 9 this term, Avonvale will face Bath Saracens and Combe Down 2nd XV.

However, Avonvale’s campaign will open at home to North Dorset 2nd XV, based just outside Gillingham, on Saturday 4th October.

Avonvale’s 2025-26 league fixtures:

  • October: 4th North Dorset 2nd XV (H), 11th Combe Down 2nd XV (A), 18th Trowbridge 3rd XV (H).
  • November: 8th Bath Saracens (A), 22nd Salisbury 2nd XV (H), 29th Frome 2nd XV (A).
  • December: 13th Warminster (H), 20th Melksham 3rd XV (A).
  • January: 10th Combe Down 2nd XV (H), 17th Trowbridge 3rd XV (A), 24th Bath Saracens (H).
  • February: 14th Salisbury 2nd XV (A), 28th Frome 2nd XV (H).
  • March: 21st Warminster (A).
  • April: 11th Melksham 3rd XV (H), 25th North Dorset 2nd XV (A).

Training sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 7pm. Players of all abilities are welcome to attend.
