First, the Aquatics GB Bath Performance Centre star helped Team England secure men’s 4x100m freestyle silver at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Brooker produced a brilliant swim in the heats, maintaining England’s hold on second spot with a split time of 48.34 secs as the quartet – anchored by former Bath Sporting Scholar Tom Dean – eased to qualification.

England changed the line-up for the final, with former Bath swimmers James Guy and Jacob Whittle coming into the quartet, and they finished runners-up to Australia.

Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar Matthew Ward raced for Scotland in the final, the host nation finishing in fourth place.

Dean won 200m individual medley bronze behind home favourite Duncan Scott.

Ward, Brooker and Bath’s US Foundation Scholar Jack Skerry, who represented England, missed out on medals in the 50m backstroke final.

Skerry finished fourth, with Ward seventh and Brooker eighth. Ward set a Scottish record of 24.75 secs.

The Bath trio were separated by just 0.03 secs in the semi-finals.

Skerry also qualified for the 200m backstroke final, placing seventh.

Brooker won his second medal when he helped Team England to silver in the 4x200m freestyle.

In the heats he got the quartet off to a strong start, his split of 1 min 49.75 secs establishing a hold on second place which his team-mates maintained.

The quartet again changed for the evening’s final, with Dean and fellow Olympic champion Guy aiding England’s charge to second spot in 7 mins 4.98 secs.

Ward swam in both the heats and final for Scotland, the hosts again finishing just a place outside the medals.

University of Bath student Isaac Dodds was part of the Jersey team that finished seventh.
