Bath swimmers finish Commonwealth Games with four-medal haul

Swimmers from the University of Bath ended the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with four medals between them.

This was thanks to Jacob Peters helping Team England win men’s 4x100m medley relay silver on the final night of competition at the Tollcross International Centre.

The Aquatics GB Bath Performance Centre swimmer aided England’s victory in the morning’s heats with a 52.64 secs split for the butterfly leg.

England went on to finish runners-up to Australia in the last final of the week.

It was a third successive medley relay medal at a Commonwealth Games for Peters, who also placed sixth in the 50m butterfly, with 23.46 secs, during a busy evening.

Computer science student Jack Skerry narrowly missed out on a medal for the second time at the Games as he finished fourth in the 100m backstroke (53.43 secs), emulating his finish in the 50m final.

His training partners Matthew Ward (53.62 secs) and Cam Brooker (53.73 secs) were sixth and seventh respectively.

Brooker had previously won two silver medals with Team England, in the 4x100m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relays.

And Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar Ward led off for Team Scotland, and placed second in the backstroke leg, as they won mixed 4x100m medley relay bronze.

He also swam in the men’s medley final as Scotland finished just outside the medals.

Ward, who studies integrated mechanical and electrical engineering, said winning bronze is what dreams are made of.

He said: “That was unbelievable.

“To get my first ever senior international medal with this group in front of a home crowd at my first Commonwealth Games is what dreams are made of.”
