Budding junior songwriters in Bath are being encouraged to sign up to a brand new neighbourhood singing project that will see their song performed by a local community choir.
The ‘Unsung’ project is being run by Bath experiential theatre company, Kilter Theatre, who are running a series of creative writing workshops to help youngsters as young as eight years old and up to 16, compose song lyrics and pen poems about life in their neighbourhood.
The songs will be written in the workshops and then polished and arranged by Kilter’s professional musicians ready for a specially formed adult choir to perform.
Two open writing workshops for children are being run at The Makery in Bath on 30th and 31st July from 10am-2pm and schools and youth-groups are being encouraged to organise musical sessions in schools and clubs for Kilter’s team of talented musicians to host and help children get their song on paper.
Artistic Director of Kilter Theatre, Olly Langdon, said: “The Unsung project was born out of all the fun we had last year with our hugely successful Green Roofs Singers. Choir members wrote songs about Snow Hill/London Road in Bath and we literally sung them from the rooftops!
“This year we’ve devised a whole new project that incorporates the creativity of children and reaches across the whole of Bath & North East Somerset to celebrate all the fantastic things that otherwise might get forgotten & overlooked!”
Adults who love to sing can also get involved in Unsung by either forming their own workplace or community choir or by joining the growing list of singing groups that are coming together as part of the project to sing the children’s songs.
Olly said: “Whether you belong to a work football team, a church, a martial arts club or even your local school’s PTA, why not form a choir and book into our eight week Unsung rehearsal schedule, you won’t regret it!”
If you only have two minutes to get involved why not join the Twitter storm and follow @Kiltertheatre or tweet something #unsung about your life!
The Unsung project is supported by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
