Churches in the Somer Valley area have announced plans for two children’s holiday clubs this summer – all to ensure that children and families have plenty of activities to choose from.

The first, in Peasedown St John itself, is the Peasedown Churches Together ‘Space Academy’ holiday club. The week will be full of games, crafts, music, video presentations and Bible stories as children learn about the story of Daniel and his wacky adventures.

Rob Bubyer, the children’s worker at St John’s Church is hosting the three-day event. He said: ‘‘I’m really looking forward to this year’s holiday club. It will be great fun, we’ll learn a lot and it would be fantastic if lots of children came along.

“We will also be joined by the new football in the community coach to run our games sessions each morning and during the afternoon.”

The holiday club runs from Tuesday 30th July to Thursday 1st August at St John’s Church and is open to children aged 5-11 in school years 1-6 (from September 2013). Parents can register children on the St J’s Group website at www.stjsgroup.org/holidayclub.

The St J’s Group of Anglican Churches will also be hosting two weeks of ‘Fun in the Sun’ activities for children in Wellow and Shoscombe. Run by the Football in the Community coach Andy Stockinger, highlights include ‘Water Slide Thursday’ and ‘Pizza Friday’.

He added: “The St J’s Group of churches are providing activities for children in Peasedown, Wellow and Shoscombe throughout the summer. Our holiday clubs are in addition to the work we are doing in village primary schools to educate and enthuse children.

“There is something for everyone this summer. Come along to find out more.”

The Fun in the Sun Holiday Clubs are for children in school years 1-7 (from September 2013) and will feature sports, craft and teaching.

Wellow Village Hall, Monday 19th August – Friday 23rd August 9am – 3pm each day. Cost is £10 per day or £45 for the week.

Shoscombe Primary School, Tuesday 27th August – Friday 30th August 9am – 3pm each day. Cost £10 per day or £35 for the week.
