All services through Bath have been cancelled this morning after a person was hit by a train at Bath Spa railway station.

Operator Great Western Railway (GWR) said the person was hit at around 10.30am this morning.

Network Rail have said that their staff are liaising with British Transport Police and the emergency services at the scene.

All lines in and out of the station are currently blocked.

Where possible, services between Swindon & Bristol Temple Meads are being diverted and will not call at Chippenham and Bath Spa.

Road transport has been requested by GWR to operate between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads.

Tickets are being accepted on First Bus services 38 and X39 between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa.

No services are expected to resume at the station until at least 1pm this afternoon.

Bath and North East Somerset issued the following statement: “Motorists are advised to avoid the Dorchester Street area of Bath due to an accident on the railway line this morning.

“Emergency services are on the scene and this is causing some congestion in the area around Bath Spa Railway Station.”

11.30am Update: The line from Bristol Temple Meads towards Bath Spa has been reopened. Bath Spa towards Bristol Temple Meads remains closed.

11.45am Update: The lines have now been reopened in both directions. Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected for services through Bath Spa station.
