An upcoming seminar in Bath is to discuss and advise on the old adage that it takes years to build a reputation and only seconds to destroy when using social media.
City-based legal firm Mogers is holding the event with recruitment experts Hays on the 9th October to explain what employers should be doing to ensure all their hard work isn’t destroyed in 140 characters or less.
Matt Malone, head of HR for the Queen Square based firm, said: “For a business a good reputation is essential to its survival.
“And while the advent of technology brings with it the chance to reach out to more potential customers or clients it also brings with it dangers which shouldn’t be ignored.
“The opportunities offered by social media outlets – from Twitter to YouTube, Pinterest to Wiki – are vast; allowing for an immediate and tailored ‘touch point’ with the consumer, as well as a channel to nurture and develop a reputation.
“However, with over half of the UK workforce actively engaging with social media, risks exist for an organisation’s brand and reputation when employees make negative comments about their employer and comments become public or show themselves in unflattering ways while stating the name of the company they work for.”
The seminar will be exploring ways a business can minimise risk, how it quantifies something as intangible as reputation and what action can be taken to avoid the pitfalls.
Matt and colleague Sean McDonough, employment partner at Mogers, are holding the seminar on Social Media and Reputation Management at Hall & Woodhouse in Bath on 9th October from 12.30pm to 2pm
