A serious crash on the A46 north of Bath on Saturday has left one of the drivers dead, with the collision being the second fatality in a matter of months on the stretch of road.
Emergency services started receiving calls to the incident involving a Ford KA and Range Rover just after 9.30am, with police, fire and ambulance crews rushing to the scene.
The road was immediately closed from the Batheaston roundabout and bottom of Gloucester Road, towards the stretch of road where the crash happened between Nimlet and the A420 Cold Ashton roundabout.
The driver of the Ford Ka was seriously injured and died later at the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police’s Collision Investigation Unit kept the road closed until around 3pm while they investigated the incident.
A 150 yard stretch of the road was cleared by the Highways Agency of the wreckage of the cars and an oil spillage.
Collision investigators are now appealing for witnesses. They would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact them.
Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.
This crash follows a fatal collision earlier this year in May, when a motorcyclist died after hitting a BMW on the tight notorious A46 bends.
