Morrisons’ second store in Bath is set to open on Monday in the former Blockbuster store on Twerton’s High Street.
The Blockbuster store closed on 21st March this year, after the firm went into administration across the country.
The new M Local is just one of more than 50 stores which Morrisons bought from the remains of Blockbuster, camera chain Jessops and HMV, all of which went bust earlier in the year. HMV and Jessops have since been rescued by external companies.
The store will have a similar format to small Tesco Express, Sainsbury’s Local and Spar, but include a far wider range of ready-to-eat hot food such as pastries, coffee, rotisserie, porridge and also a salad bar. Items will be stocked from the Bath Morrisons store and shoppers can also order foods in including fresh meat and fish.
This will add further competition onto the High Street, with a Co-op, smaller independent convenience store and bakery all available in the area.
With only their large store on the London Road, Morrisons lacked the smaller convenience stores that its competitors had in Bath, something this new addition has remedied.
The new store will be officially opened at 9am, and will be open each day from 7am to 11pm.
