The Rotary Club of Bath is holding a golf day to raise funds for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) and other local charities.
The event is being held at Bath Golf Club on Friday 13th September 2013. Teams of four can enter at a cost of £40 per person to include green fees, golfer’s meal, half-way house and prizes. The golf competition starts at 7.45am with teams teeing off throughout the day.
The charity, providers of an air ambulance service for the 2.1m people of the region including Bristol and Bath, is currently trying to raise £250,000 of additional funds for a new Eurocopter EC 135 helicopter in order to replace the ageing Bölkow 105 model that it currently uses as part of a campaign called ‘Movin’ on Up’.
Roger McSweeney, President of the Rotary Club of Bath said: “This is the Rotary Club of Bath’s eighth charity golf day. We prefer to support local charities with our donations contributing to something tangible, hence the decision to support GWAAC’s appeal to upgrade its helicopter. We are delighted to be supporting Great Western Air Ambulance Charity which does an amazing job in our region, getting to the scene of critical incidents, often in remote locations and saving lives.”
“It’s going to be a fun day with serious completion with prizes valued at £2000. We enjoy fantastic support from Rotork plc, an outstandingly successful international engineering company based in Bath. Other local businesses and golf clubs have also been very generous in donating over £2000 in raffle prizes.”
John Christensen, Chief Executive of GWAAC said: “In the first six months of 2013, we attended 17 incidents in the Bath area, and therefore are delighted that the Rotary Club of Bath have decided to support our cause through their charity golf day – I hope that the event is a real success as the funds raised will help to keep our air ambulance flying.”
