Resurfacing works to improve Silver Street in Midsomer Norton will begin on Monday 17th August, followed by works to Charlton Road from Monday 24th August.

Silver Street, including the junction with Charlton Road, will be closed from Monday 17th until Friday 21st.

Charlton Road will close on Monday 24th until Friday 28th.

There will be road closures 7am – 7pm with diversions in place.

Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown), Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “This is essential work to improve the roads in Midsomer Norton.

“Unfortunately it will inevitably cause some disruption but we are doing all we can to mitigate the impact on local people.

“Access will be controlled by traffic marshalls, and where possible access for residents will be maintained as site operations allow.

“Unfortunately there may be short periods when vehicle access will not be possible so the Council is asking residents to be prepared to make other access arrangements.

“We’d like to thank motorists and residents for their patience during the disruption whilst these works were taking place.”

From Monday August 17th, whilst Silver Street is closed, bus operators are re-routing services as follows:

  • A free shuttle service will operate between Norton Hill School on Charlton Road, via Fosse Way, Wells Road and Radstock Victoria Hall every 30 minutes in each direction whilst Silver Street is closed.
  • Some journeys will continue to The Tyning and other trips will serve Waterford Park and Wesley Avenue.
  • Passengers from Westfield are advised to use the shuttle service to connect with regular services at Radstock Victoria Hall.
  • During the closure First services 173, 178, 184, and 379 will divert via Church Lane, North Road, Radstock Road and Somervale Road on journeys towards Bath, returning via Somervale Road, Radstock Road and Midsomer Norton High Street.
  • Early morning and evening journeys will operate the normal route.
  • Somerbus service 82 from the Tyning at 0900 will operate as normal, but all other 82 services will only operate between Paulton and Midsomer Norton Town Hall.
  • The early journeys on the Somerbus 175 should operate normally towards Bath, but the 0720 service from Midsomer Norton Town Hall will operate via Somervale Road.  The 1725 departure from Bath will operate along Somervale Road.
  • On Monday 17th the Somerbus 668 service to Radstock, Timsbury, and Bristol will start and end at Westfield School; passengers from Midsomer Norton should use alternative services and change in Radstock.
  • The Frome Minibus service 414 will operate via Somervale Road during the closure.
  • The Hatch Green Service 776 to Shepton Mallet at 0800 from Radstock Victoria Hall will operate via Somervale Road.
  • During the closure of Charlton Road w/c August 24, services will be diverted via the A367 and Silver Street and no shuttle services will be required.

The Council has written to local residents with more details about access to properties and parking arrangements during the work.
