Students at Norton Radstock’s College have proved they are made of sterner stuff when they recently braved a day of training with the Royal Marines.
The group was put through their paces on the chilly playing field at the college’s Radstock campus by a team of commandos.
As well as testing their strength and stamina, the students also had to use their ingenuity and concentration to rise to the tough challenges set by their visitors.
One task that called for some good teamwork was when the group was asked to construct a stretcher from ropes and carry an “injured” teammate to safety.
The day was full of valuable experience that would stand the Level 3 Public Services students in good stead for their future careers, said course coordinator Neil Clark.
He said: “We are really grateful for the visit by the Royal Marines Commandos, as this was a great insight into some of the challenges that lay ahead for our students and the skills they need for very rewarding roles in the public sector.
“As well as providing a test of their physical skills, the day encouraged them to use their initiative to tackle problems and showed just what can be achieved when they work as a team and use everyone’s skills to the best advantage.”
